Take a cup or so of water and stir in sugar until it will no longer dissolves. Leave the solution in an open container and let the water evaporate. The sugar will start to crystallize as the water evaporates.

Sugar crystals form when you disolve sugar into water and then have the water evaporate out. This as the the water evaporates out the sugar molecules stop bonding with the water and bond with eachother, forming crystals.
