What do you think about a math book with only examples ? Please read below for additional details ?

I have been teaching math for about 4 years. Students in my algebra class have informed me that the textbooks do not have enough examples and lack detail. I am currently working on an example book just for ALGEBRA. The idea is to have a book where different type of problems are solved. I do plan on marketing this book for teachers, students as well home-schoolers. This book will provide students with detailed examples at different degrees of difficulty. I realize there are some books out there such as Schaum's outlines, but they leave out some important examples and are sometimes not detailed enough. It should not be mistaken for a textbook, but rather an example book to be used along with the required textbook. I would like to hear from some of you and what you think. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you. Samples: http://www.scribd.com/doc/3785899/combiningliketerms http://www.scribd.com/doc/3713414/orderofoperations

i think it's a great idea! last year i took algebra2 and i went on vacation for a whole week. the teacher gave me my homework but it was really hard for me to do it because i didn't really understand what the book was telling me! and also with this idea i bet more students will pass algebra!

I think it's a wonderful idea. Most algebra books (and textbooks and books in general) don't have nearly enough examples. They carry on about something and assume you will magically know what they are talking about without an actual example. I learn better when a concept is actually applied and it is shown how you could apply it. Also, if I were you, I would give a brief overview of each concept followed by a LOT of examples and then some sample problems and examples of how the concept can actually be applied. I would also do some research on some "classical" problems and include them, show how to solve a few and leave the rest for the reader to solve. --------- edit --------- I would also demonstrate and explain why certain concepts actually work. eg. Why a fraction times "itself flipped over" (it's reciprocal) is one by showing that a/b * b/a = ab/ba = ab/ab = 1

there's no problem on what book you use;but the fact is you have to make others understand(students). In algebra, examples are not much important and you can give homeworks with final results that would make them to try to find the answer
