My daughter is getting ready for 4th grade and she is failing math. She has ADD and takes meds. It seems that if she does well in math then she wont do well in spelling and reading. It goes back and forth. Now it is math and I need some help.

Answer:
Multiplication and division at that level is mostly rote memorization of the tables. Try flashcards, which are easily available and don't require a lot of theory. Start by giving her 5 seconds for each answer, with a reward (like a M&M) if she's in the time limit. Once she can do that, reduce the time limit. Try to get those fast-firing synapses to work for you instead of against you!

If your child has a problem in division and mult. , u first write multiplication tables in a book from 1 to 10 and teach her atlest 2 tables daily and she will learn slowly.Division also I THINK you can doit like that. she is a small kid she will take time to learn so you have to sit with her and teach .PLEASE DON'NT BE VIOLENT WHEN TEACHING HER. Otherwise you plz. get her to a maths tution becoz. some childrens study's when they go to tutions.TRY THAT ALSO

hi friend, my elder daughter was also not doing well in maths rather any subject in primary school. i resolved the issue by being very patient with her. you can enroll her to class that she really enjoys be it music, dance, or sports. meanwhile teach her great patience. explain her in an interesting way and repeat the multiplication tables every day, what we call parrot learning.never ever scold her or get irritated. introduce every new chapter by saying this is a very-exciting thing /important chapter/ very useful thing she is going to learn.she should improve. then why does she has do well academically?may be she wants do something else in her life.good luck!

Here's some advice from a teacher... Your school probably has rules against teachers tutoring students outside of school, but ask their advice. Teachers know lots of other teachers and may have some reliable colleagues that can tutor in the specific areas that your daughter needs. Also, since your daughter has ADD, don't be afraid to ask the special education teachers at your school for help. They can point you in the right direction and there are many free resources available to you and your daughter. Good luck!

I'm no expert on child education, but I can tell you what worked for me. When I was in fifth grade, my mother enrolled me in a program called Kumon. Basically, it strongly emphasises rote memorization of basic concepts with a special emphasis on speed. They start from very low level, doing simple addition until it can be done rapidly and gradually work up to very advanced concepts. I disenrolled in the program when it came to manipulation of fractions but at that point I had advanced far beyond any of my peers. I recommend you check it out, it really worked well for me.

Had the same problem w/my daughter. I waited too long and she struggles all the time with math now. Her teacher told me to solicit help from either other math teachers or college students (paying for their services but it'll be woth it in the long run)
