What is the surface area?

So when the first cans were made what was the surface area of the can and how much did it wigh?

• Im doing a projsect in school on cans and i have to know when the history of the can. If anyone knows the surface area or the area at all please le me know... i have the surface area of the cans made now though!!!!

  Since no has taken a stab at this yet, I'll try: As an experiment, food was first cooked (to kill germs) and then stored in air-tight bottles. It was taken aboard an English ship. After a couple of months the bottle was opened and the food was found not to have spoiled. A sheet metal worker found out about this, and thought about storing food in cans instead. James Burke discusses this in one of the Connections Programs. I've included a link in the sources part. There is no reason the surface area of the can would vary between now and then unless the cans were first made with a square bottom. I don't believe it was.
