Yearbook questions to ask?

What questions as a new yearbook adviser should i ask when selecting a publisher?

  • Answer:

Ditto all the above, plus: What workshops and other hands-on training do they include with their services for you and your students? What other, ongoing help do they offer? The software should include easy to use template series that will look good and cut down on layout setup while you and new staff are learning. Ask to see samples and demos. The company should be willing to help you and your staff set up manageable deadlines. It's a learning curve. Good luck!

In addition to the other 2 answers, you should definitely ask about their layout/cover design services, what kind of software they use (so you can get compatible software for your school), and who their liaison will be for your school. My school's publisher sent us a great liaison who often worked with the students side-by-side and kept us on deadline. We were also referred to a graphic designer who provided us with good layout templates. I think both of these were instrumental in our winning an award that year from the National Scholastic Press Association.

What do you charge...and what do we get for that charge? Get very specific -- number of pages, pix, delivery dates, etc.
