Is it bad to go to a private school?

Should I go back to my old religioius private school even though i'm atheist?

  • Last year I went to a small private, which means it's religious, school. We go to church on Friday during school and have Religion first period. It's grades pre-k through 8th. There is only about 20 kids to a grade, but I don't mind that. It had all of the faces i've known since pre-k, which is good. But as 5th grade started, everyone started changing. Girls got in cliques. They stayed immature and I grew up a little bit. I stayed for the next year, 6th grade. Well, 6th grade was hell. All the girls hated me and were b!tches. The boys were my friends, but even when I was with them I felt a little like I didn't belong. I had one girl best friend who was my absolute best friend since 5th grade and she's still my best friend (Maria). I had one other best friend who was a boy (Joe). I had a couple other good friends. We learned sooo much there got such a good education. But all of the teachers were mean. I was kind of pessimist though. I left the school for 7th grade and went to a public middle school. I'm not bullied at all, like my teachers and made new friends. It's weird though, because I probably made over 50 good friends, but I love my Joe and Maria more than any of them. You know what I mean? The problem is, even though i'm in all advanced/ gifted classes, we don't learn sh!t in half of them. Only civics and science. So I should go back to my old school, but it's religious and I kind of went atheist over the summer/ 7th grade school year. Please don't be like "Stupid kid, you're 13, you don't know what you believe in.", because I know plenty. Also please don't preach the Bible to me... lol. All of the girls that hated me at my old school either got expelled or switched schools, most of the teachers I hated left too. The boys I didn't feel I belonged with left. The ones I did stayed. Weird right? lol. I like my new school but I miss seeing my old friends at school more than I would if i left this school. Paying for private school isn't a problem. The religion is a huge problem for me. Would you go to a school that believes in something you don't? I want to know your opinion. I know it's hypocritical, but I really want to get a good education, and I don't know how to do that other than go to this school because all of the schools suck in my district. I would do homeschooling, but I can't. This question probably seems really stupid to some of you, but answers anyways. Thnaks a ton for reading this, love you! :)

  • Answer:

Go back to your old school if you are not bothered that they profess a belief which you do not share. They seem to be able to provide the secular information amd socialising which suit you. After all, what religion people are makes no difference to you as they go about their jobs of serving you, protecting your rights, providing you with transport, medical care etc. Enjoy the best education you can get and live with your own conscience at the same time.

1st of all, nobody has the right to tell you that you should go back to a certain school to get closer to any gods (again). That's foolish in and of itself. However, I can tell you that I went to a private Baptist school as a child and I never believed in Santa, Mother Goose, Celestial Tea pots, Magical garden Fairies or another nonsense story that was unquantifiable to any degree. I'm now well educated, have literally been in life and death situations, served in the military, a wife, mother, community activist and I still don't believe in any gods today anymore than I did the day I was born! Our curriculum at my old school was reading the Bible, little did they know that some of us would actually read it (and my grandfather was our pastor). Reading the Bible is the best way to cure religious fanaticism. However, I do understand your plight about not wanting religion shoved down your throat. If you believe the education is better at the private school-take it and look at the religious attempts of indoctrination as preparing you for well rounded arguments you will undoubtedly have at some point in your life; if the education is not worth the religious hassle or is on par with going elsewhere then I'd go with less headache & distractions away from your studies. You sound quite intelligent and I wish you the very best in your endeavors.

I think you should absolutely go back to your old school! Go back to you 2 closest friends! They will be the ones who matter in 20 yrs! not the new ones at the public school. You need to learn and if your not learning anything at the public school then go back to the private one. I know you said not to preach, but it would be a good idea to go back and get closer to God again.

you dont "kinda go athiest over the summer" lol. You can still like what athiests like to say and be skeptical of what catholics have to say, however that does not automatically turn you into an ahtiest. Its like how people have to have a baptism before they become catholics, there is more too it than just deciding what you want to be. Otherwise, people could change their minds every time they found a good argument for belonging to a paticular religion or holding a paticular belife.
