Breathe - lol. I'm not a Mom, but I suggest trying making studying more interesting, because it can be very very boring. Maybe you could make a little game out of studying, such as making flash cards and having small prizes for him when he accomplishes a task. And maybe the same for the 11 year old, a prize or something small for her achievements. I wish you the best of luck! --Vae

After school, you should let them run around and do whatever they want for a while. Some kids can't concentrate when they're hyper (one of the reasons why schools have recess). They should be able to concentrate after that. As for the academic problems, try getting them a tutor or signing them up for a program. If they resist that, you should try to make up ways to make studying sound more appealing to them. My mom used to tell me that she would give me two dollars (sometimes more if it was for a more serious subject like Math) for every A I received on my report card. For every 90% or higher, she used to buy me ice cream or something simple like that. Set a goal for them (something they will like) and if they want it enough, they'll start trying. Or you could try discipline. Though ultimatums don't always work, if you desperately need to, DO give them an ultimatum. I'm not saying you should (because I know how that feels like) but you could try simple ones like: No TV until you've studied or, no computer until you finished your homework, etc... Try to be calm and relaxed when talking to them. Fighting with them might provoke them to fight even more (I've done that plenty of times with my mom). I'm not sure if this helped but I hope it did a little :)
