How can I survive financially through school?

How can I survive the first day of high school?

  • I'm pretty much the weirdest, most socially awkward 14 year old girl know to man. I can't make friends easily and to top it all off... I'm not very pretty. Actually, very chubby. Starting in a few months I will be attending Lake Weir High School. Most of my friends will be going to North Marion... How can I survive freshman year? Any advice is helpful.

  • Answer:

Not everyone is going to care about looks. In fact, most people will just be grateful if they make a couple of friends on the first day and won't really be concerned with people's appearances. Well at least I know that's what it was like for me. Just try your hardest to be nice to everyone, say hello and introduce yourself, ask questions about them (what school they were at, what classes they're in, if they know anyone etc) and try to find some common ground/interests. Don't worry about what they think of you, just put yourself out there. Anyone worth being friends with won't mind if you're awkward as long as you're friendly and nice. And everyone is weird in their own way... some of the 'weirdest' people in my school were also some of the most liked. Yes, some were the most disliked, but that was mainly because they freaked people out (a bit violent), or were really closed off and unapproachable. There will be a lot of people skinnier than you, and some bigger. But that shouldn't matter; did your old friends care how you looked? (I hope the answer is no, and your new ones shouldn't care either). And another thing, if it's not impacting on your health then there's nothing wrong with not being a stick. In fact, in terms of other people's opinions, in my senior years the only people I really noticed in terms of body image/appearance were those who wore what I considered to be unflattering and unsuitable clothes, and those who were so skinny I felt kind of sickened (looked like they were about to snap in half/legs give out). I'm slightly underweight myself, but have always been so - it's natural - so when I say I was sickened by really skinny people it wasn't because I was jealous or biased. Just be yourself, try and be really friendly even if you are awkward in social situations, and don't worry about what others think of your appearance. People will, or at least they did in my high school, care more about personality than looks. That's not to say there wasn't some who were incredibly shallow, but most SHOULD be able to see beyond appearances. No one likes to be with people they don't get along with because of their personalities, behaviour etc. Also, I've just gone off what you've said, but most people are too critical about themselves. I know I am. You probably are too.

Lol, you sound like every other 14 year old on the face of the planet. you'll be fine. just relax and try to learn something, that's what school is for after all.

Well if you realize you're awkward that's a very good start. Just be yourself really. Don't appear needy. Look relaxed. Go with the flow. You should be fine. Don't listen to the myths about what upper class men do to freshman. They treat freshman really well.

Try and get involved and keep a look out for the other weirdos. Drama kids tend to be weird. :) but all you can really do is go with the flow but don't change for anyone

asnariaaxx

don't worry. just go with the flow

I was new to my high school when i started my freshman year, i didnt know anybody! Im also very quiet and pretty antisocial. You just kind of have to go with the flow, dont try too hard to make friends, but i mean try to be a little outgoing. It doesnt do anything to be nervous, also stay true to yourself. What really matters is what is inside ( I know... lame... but its true!)... Join clubs or sports if you can. I am going to be a junior and i have plenty of friends now! I know what its like to not have anybody to talk to or to sit at lunch with, it sucks! But the 3rd day of school a girl asked me to sit with her at lunch, and then the next day a couple girls in my PE class asked me to go to lunch with them. I was really quiet and that happened. So try not to worry and have fun! High school is sooooo fun! Enjoy it! Good Luck, and if you ever need any advice or have any questions, email me: [email protected] I would love to help you, cuz ive been there! Good Luck =)

Just be friendly but don't try to be friends with people that don't respect you, it's not as bad as people make it seem. Everybody isn't out to get you.

Surviving the first day of high school is easy and surviving freshman year is even easier. Just go and do it. Best thing to do it not to worry so much about what others think about you since there will always be ******* in the world. Also you should study the map of the school to ensure that it happens. Nothing wrong with being a chubby/big person, in my opinion anyways.

Be yourself, Don't bother what other say about you, And try your hardest.

Just be yourself, don't get into drama, don't gossip (unless it is something the person actually said ;P), laugh at yourself, and don't let other people and the media influence who you are. No, really, I just blocked off all of the fads and what other people were doing, and I found myself! I found out what looks and other things I liked, I realized what is important, NOT LOOKS, I know that I can just be myself. I am not afraid to wear what I want. I am WAY happier once I did this.
