How to get motivated on starting homework?
-
Well i'm in high school (10th grade) and I really need help on getting motivated to start my homework. On mondays, tuesdays, and thursdays, I have football practice at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30. School ends at 2:25 and I ride the bus home and get home at around 3:00. You see, everytime during school, I tell myself I would do homework right when I get home, but it never happens. I always end up doing something else. I need a way to get homework done while theres football involved or just getting motivated doing homework. I thought about my future about how it would be like if I don't get a good education. Then think about my future with education. I'm very smart but just either procrastinate or don't do homework at all. Please give me tips on how to get a good education. My 2nd quarter is starting soon (end of this month) and I want to go for straight A's... actually, Straight A's as of the 2nd quarter and throughout the whole year. Please help. Much thanks, Zander.

Answer:
Time management is a skill that even most professional workers haven't mastered yet. It is hard. The thing to get you going is that if you don't get good grades, you'll flunk and, if your school is like any other school, if you don't get a certain GPA, you're off the team. Just don't let it come to that. Your football playing may earn you a college scholarship - but only if your grades are good. (And of course, after college, the NFL just may be calling as well if you keep your game up).

don't think, just jump in there. it's like pulling off a band aid, you don't slowley peel it off, just just rip it right off. so don't think and just grab your stuff go to your study area and dig in.

I have the same problem. What i do is even though i procrastinate, i finish it (mostly), and if i'm too sleepy or unmotivated to go on, then i do it in school while the teacher is lecturing. Lately, i've set up a system to motivate me. I gave myself something to look forward to. For me, i made it a brownie :P. But it can be anything, from hanging out with your friends (or girlfriend), to just the motivation of getting good grades. Hope this helps! P.S. If you still cant do it, try finishing your homework first no matter if you want to or not! The feeling after finishing your homework is awesome, because you dont have to worry about it and do whatever you want. It usually leads to better grades too! Homework is basically studying, so doing your homework is key! I started off with no honors classes in eighth, and i know high school is serious stuff. So i applied for honors classes and got in! Im also in a class where im the only freshman enrolled in the whole school and there arent many sophomores either! Now my motivation is to feel good in school so try it! Wow that was a long P.S.

You should think of something you really, really want, or want to do. Restrict yourself from that until you get your homework done. When you do your homework, at the end of the week reward yourself. Trust me, in a couple of years you will regret not trying as hard as you could've. I speak from experience.

slap yourself in the face or hire someone to organize stuff for you or tell your friends to.

Hey...I have a college degree. I had average grades in high school, but I did my work because I didn't want to be a lazy butt. Getting an education and a good job is worth it. I am only a teacher, but I make 29,000 more than a person getting minimum wage in my state. I bought my own new car, house, a big screen TV, a Wii, an PSP, all kinds of stuff. So let's put it this way in school terms: Lazy butt = 5.15 per hour Educated & hard working 9.00 per hour - $80 per hour or more

What I do is think about how much better it would feel without having hw on your conscience. Just try to not stress out by the amount of work you have, once you get started, you'll be finished in no time.
Everyone has the same problem. Setting priorities and taking the needed action. You sound as if you are trying to set priorities. In other words..."choosing" what to do first and when. Homework... is NOT homework... it's just extra practice work to help you understand what teachers want you to learn in school. Unfortunately teachers cannot accomplish everything they want to do for you in school, so very often it becomes that extra practice work. It can be done any where, any time and with anybody. You know that. But you don't do it because YOU THINK it's not FUN. It CAN BE FUN... and you CAN DO IT.... It has NOTHING to do with MOTIVATION... Just find FUN ways of MAKING it FUN. To do that FORGET the GRADES. Grades like A's come AUTOMATICALLY if you have FUN and ENJOY what you do and do regularly. If and when you think about grades, do you ENJOY it? Do you have FUN even thinking about it? I'm sure most people don't. That's because they forget to have FUN getting it. Your MOTIVATION is to MAKE that EXTRA WORK ...FUN and DO IT when you want to have FUN. It can be during recess..., before school.... It can be doing it by yourself.... with friends... with family... Don't use anything like football as an excuse for NOT having FUN doing EXTRA WORK that can be FUN. If you want... ask... many people know... even your teacher...

I think that it is hard for me to give you an answer for this because i do not know how your home life is. I would just like you to think about how life would be without a degree from college. Also think about how it would be with one. I finished high school after having a child and went straight to college. I thought about how life would be for my child if i was to not get a career. Now obviously, I had a little more motivation on my side because of the baby but think of what you want your life to be like. That might help you. You need to figure something out because you have college to go to. It is a lot harder to stay motivated in college. I dont know if that helps or not. But I tried... Bye and Good Luck.

i think that you should just tell your parents to check your homework everyday, and if its not done, then tell them to not let you go to the football game. so it would motivate you to get it done.
