Do you have any good science project ideas for a 7th grader?

What are some good ideas for a science project for a 5th grader?

  • My daughter is looking for ideas for her science project and we have found some sites, but nothing that looks like an A project. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

My son did very well with the effects of contaminating chemicals on plants.Like when rain washes oils off streets or insecticides out of yards and runs across plants .the contaminated water effects the way plants grow.My wife got this on the internet somewhere .Since you really dont have the time to put different toxins in plants we pu stalks of celery in cups of water and put a little food colring in ie. red may be insecticides blue may be another harmful chemical. After a few days the celery drinks the water and turns the color of the food color for that cup.Like I said its kinda hypathetical using these colors and celery but if you back the display up with very informative factual research it sells itself. He got an A and moved on to the district science fair. Another one was the visual effects color of food has on people. It was a taste test thing where she had a gathering of say 7 people tasting and rating different things that you could easily change the color.example everyone liked the red koolaide much better than the clear koolaide although they were the same flavor.she also put cloring in the clear koolaide to make it an ugly color that got rated worst .had them eat a cracker in between tastes.never tell them what they are tasting just assure them it is safe .this is only one example of what products she used. Both projects were well recieved by judges proving you dont have to be a science wiz do do well just well prepared with facts and test results. both were alot of fun for the kids, who werent excited about doin the project in the first place.

take a glass water cup (in which normally we drink the water or soda).fill that cup with water (up to top edge of cup). than put a a peace of cardboard on that top. (the cardboard peace is not too big but bigger than top diameter of cup). than put one palm-hand on cardboard and turn the cup up side down (be sure to keep your palm on the cardboard, and do this in the sink if u doing first time). now move your palm-hand slowly, u can see that the cardboard is still under the cup. this is because of the pressure of air on the cardboard which i acting on cardboard from down side is more than the pressure of water which is acting on the cardboard from top side.

What if we did not have thumbs (importance of opposable thumb). Time several regular tasks like buttoning a shirt, picking up a penny. Then tape her thumbs to her hands so she can't use them, then time the tasks again. Take pictures along the way. Calculate the time increase (percentage), make a chart, then write a conclusion.

Ask her to observe the environment in which she lives then advice to note them in a paper and Show her how to select the priority her observations. Finally it would be a nice project.
