What Is Social Studies?

What is a good social studies fair idea?

  • I have never in my life done a social studies fair...or a fair of any kind and my new school is requiring it. So I have no idea what to do for the fair? Can anyone give me good interesting ideas for a high school social studies fair?

  • Answer:

try doing the history of chocolate. i'm in 10th grade and i did it last year. it was really fun/interesting and it fit into all of the guidlines (they honestly don't care as long as it has to do with "the history of..." or "how ____ affects ____") i don't know what grade your in (you don't have to be young for it, mine won for regionals and i was in 9th grade). just make sure you put a lot of historical facts in there ;) hope this helped :)

Hi, I've never heard of a social studies fair, either. They didn't have those when I was in school. But it sounds interseting. I found this abstract online: "....The first step is an understanding of the fair rules. Second, the student decides whether to work in a group or alone, after reading advantages and disadvantages of both approaches. Step three, choosing a topic, describes nine categories and topics within those categories. Students may choose from history, economics, political science, geography, anthropology, sociology, psychology, interdisciplinary, or special theme topics. The fourth step lists sources of information for the research portion of the project. Step five outlines the research steps: stating the question, collecting information, organizing and summarizing, stating conclusions, and stating the importance of conclusions. Steps six and seven concern constructing a display and preparing for judging. The judging consists of an oral presentation and a written abstract as well as a visual display." So, does your school have some rules you have to know first? Are you allowed to work with anyone else? Do any of those topic areas sound interesting to you? I don't know what grade you're in so I'm not sure what would be appropriate for you.
