Explain how Carbon dioxide gets inside a leaf?

  • Explain how Carbon dioxide gets inside a leaf and how oxygen manages to get out of a leaf. Use diagrams to help you (4 Marks) Help me, thank you. :)

  • Answer:

In short green leafs of plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere whilst roots of the plant draw up water from the ground. Plant then use the sunlight to break the bonds in water (H2O) and combine the Hydrogen (H) with the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) to from a simple sugar called Glucose (C6H12O6), with Oxygen (O2) being released back into the atmosphere as a waste product. The chemcial equation for this is as follows: 6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + O2

It's called transpiration and respiration. This occurs when the stomata or pores on a leaf open to regulate the transfer of gases including oxygen and carbon dioxide into and out of the plant.
