Well, how much is "not exactly a lot of money"? The usual process is that product is patented (if it can be patented) and then either commercialized by the original developer or licensed to a marketer (such as one of those nondescript outfits that flood late-night television with infomercials; sometimes, although rarely, you can even get a big company, such as Proctor & Gamble or Rubbermaid, interested).
