What is the best way to advertise your internet biz?

  • I am looking for some ideas of how to advertise an internet biz. How do I get my website into search engines, or just my name out there.

    Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google A few free resources – check out the sources box for links: 1) Create a blog pertaining to your field 2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one! 3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise. 4) Advertise on Craiglist Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission. It depends on your business, of course, but if it has a product, I'd start by advertising in non-web ways. Seriously. Tell people. Put up posters. Make business cards. Take out ads in magazines where people look for things in your business's world. Purely relying on search engines can be a thankless task! Don't overlook other electronic ways, however. Put your URL in your email signature. Go on newsgroups and chatrooms where people are interested in your type of product. Start a blog! You can also take out ads - I only know about Google ads, where you pay for ads based on the popularity of the search term you choose. The more popular, the more expensive, of course, which is why it's cheaper to have a niche market. You can control how much you spend each month by putting a limit on how many times your ad appears. The good part is that only people who are interested in your type of product would use that search term, right? There may be other providers (Yahoo? MSN?) who are also competing for your search-word ad, so be sure to comparison shop. Then and only then should you be concerned with search engine placement, and there's a lot to learn, unfortunately, about designing your site so that it's search-engine friendly. The best site on Search Engines is www.searchenginewatch.com, but they have been at it for a long time, so there's almost TOO much information there - it's a bit overwhelming. But good luck! Well I use freewebs.com which is a fairly large free website hosting place. I'm using it for my small business at the following link all for free... www.freewebs.com/rageskateprojects/ It's really nice and simple to use. If you do the pay for version you can submit your site to Google and get your own Domain name so it won't say Freewebs.com/ then your name. It's simple, and easy to use. I recomend them alot! You can also submit your site to smaller search engines like I did. It's a really nice place, check it out at www.freewebs.com
