How do you trade mark a name of a business?

How do you trade mark a name? And are there any alternatives to trade marking?

• I'm developing my own recording studio and I want to have some kind of trade mark to set us aprat from other studios. I know it takes several months before trade mark laws approve you so is there a cheaper and faster way to trade mark a name for a company.
