What are the pros and cons of working retail?

  • For my marketing class I am supposed to ask two people who work in retail, what they feel the pros and cons (advantage and disadvantages) of working retail are? I figure Yahoo answers would be a good place to take care of this.

    cons-low pay, long hours, on your feet all day, work most holidays pro- store discount, work indoors, shop in the rest of the mall on breaks, no higher education needed

i worked retail for years- pro-paycheck, depending on what you sell you could learn a lot about the product con- the people, you really get a view of people that is not flattering...people who try to return things they've been using for 5 yrs., people who use you as a verbal punching bag, etc...
