What is the most profitable business?

I want to start a profitable business - what do I start?

  • I am looking to start a business with profits of over 200K per annum to start. What types of businesses would be good to start? I can put 20K into a business today - and build/manage it part time. I make about 100K today in a job that I hate and would love to get out of working. What would you start if you were in my shoes? Can you recommend any good books to read that describes different types of profitable businesses, the business models behind them, etc...? I am willing to start a copy-cat business, try to come up with a new twist to an old idea, or start from fresh ideas.... Problem is, I just don't know what I want to start... Any help/advice from those who have been through this line of thinking and found a way out would be helpful.

I would start a company with residual income part-time before I gave up a decent paying job in this market. Once you get the business off the ground you can leave your job. Build a viral marketing site. I mean a complete one which include all you need in running online business. From membership site, payment processor, top selling product, etc. You can make far more than your goal. If you are new to this, get a REAL marketing expert to help you out. There's plenty out there. I must tell you this isn't going to cheap deal. http://viralmarketingtool.uni.cc

you could also consider buying a business from a business brokerage

First you should put together an idea of what you really want to do... ask yourself, if you already had the millions and you were going to start a business, what would it be. I started my own business a year ago, for the similar 20k and I have really been working on the learning curve to this point. This year, the profit margins are taking off in leaps and bounds. Without marketing to you on here, I would say that you should talk to people in businesses in your area, determine what your passion is, determine what is going to deliver value to the public enough to the point where they will pay you your 200k profits. I can't answer if I were in your shoes, but if I were in my shoes, I would do exactly what I am doing right now.

Depending on what you do, and how long you have been doing it, you may be able to start a business in that field. You won't get out of working because you own a business. It will be the exact opposite, if you want it to be successful that is. You will be working more than ever. There are thousands and thousands of profitable businesses out there. Try to combine your interests with your professional experience and strive to be the best as well as providing good solid customer service, and you will probably be ok. The small business administration has a very good website for starting a business. Also, local chamber of commerce offices may provide classes for free or at very minimal expense for business owners. It also depends on the demographics of the area that you are in. Not to be negative, but most businesses don't begin making profit until they are around 3 years old. So, if you don't see profit right away, don't be discouraged and give up, just work harder. You might want to consider doing something that will allow you to keep your day job until you start realizing profits as well. Anyways, I hope that you do your research so that some of the delusions you apparently have about owning a business are turned into more realistic point of views.

My advice would be to suck it up and stay with the 100 k a year and try to maybe double or triple your savings. Doing a budget to determine what your annual /monthly expenses is also key at this point. Frequently you have to learn how to live for low before you can be rolling in the dough. Your expectations for return on 20K are imo not realistic. good luck though!

I should start out by letting you know its not how much you start with but what you do with the little you have. If I have $20,000 to start a business, what business I would start? Most business to that you thinking about venturing in will have a related business forum, I would join that forum and learn from others and ask question before I venture in. I would open a yahoo store, build some business relationship with a few factories in China, this way i'm getting my merchandise directly from the source so I will be able to be very competitive like Wal-mart. I could go on and on in detail about this plan but it better you read the business forum below.
