Answer:
GP get it checked out at Planned Parenthood. They can refer you to your local county hospital or cancer research center. Then--if you have a mammogram (you don't have to pay these folks up front --except PP and they charge based on your income--) and then need a biopsy you'll at least know what's going on. If it's not cancer you can pay these people a bit each month and they won't harass you. Federal law requires every State to have a breast and cervical cancer program that's like medicaid--actually once you qualify it is medicaid, but the actual qualifications are different from regular Medicaid--like--you can have income (i Arkansas anyway) of up to $2800 per month. If you are under 40 and have been diagnosed with breast cancer and meet the income requirements you'll get ALL your treatments and such paid for--even the biopsy that caused the diagnosis. So--don't let the lack of money stop you from protecting your health. It's worth a couple hundred bucks (a mammogram is about $150) to know you don't have cancer and God forbid, if you do--there is assistance out there for you. I'll say a prayer for you--Good Luck.

The symptoms of breast cancer vary depending on how advanced it has become. Early breast cancer has no symptoms. Women or their doctors often find a "lump" as a symptoms of cancer but most of the time this is not malignant. If you have one ore more close family members who have had breast cancer ( mother or sister) you are at risk for the genetic form of breast cancer. If you have no insurance a mamogram cost under or about $100. Every large community will have a charity hospital, medical school or teaching hospital which usually have a program to screen women regardless of insurance. Other groups i.e. The Susan Komen Foundation and others do some free screening. Do not ignor your symptom!

The breast cancer society has the best place for general info but i agree never try to play doctor yourself. If breast cancer or cancer period runs in ur family. then everyone should be tested because the info on tv and stuff is wrong. They make breast cancer out to be a womans problem. It isnt women have a higher chance of getting it. although rare men get it and even more rare that a breast has to be removed and more so that they die from it. a lady in my hometown lost her father because of breast cancer. even the breast cancer society suggest the monthly check thing by the men in a family especially if breast cancer runs in the family

Hey well given your family history I really think you should go no matter what financial situation. My aunt had breast cancer and if she didn't have a mammogram she would have been dead by this time this year. Other symptoms include lump on breast, lump in armpit which would be a lymphnod, Nipple discharge, change in color of skin and feel of breast, Itchy nipples, breast pain or enlargement on one side only, accentuated veins on breast surface, advanced disease symptoms are bone pain, weight loss, swelling of one arm, and skin ulceration. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000913.htm Don't think that just because you don't have all the symptoms or any symptoms your safe, you never know. I hope everything works out for you and also my best wishes to your aunt. Hope I could help. Shorty
