How do I change my personal goal for Relay for Life?

Being a cancer survivor, Iparticipate in the Relay For Life. Anyone else out there have Relay?

  • I participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. It is an overnight event to raise money and awareness for and about cancer. Communities get together teams and pledge to stay and walk all night for the fight aganist cancer. This is truly an awesome event and I am quite sure everyone here has known someone or has been a victim of cancer themselves. I would like to know what your favorite part of the Relay is and why. I am very proud of my community for taking up the fight. I am also proud that I was one of 2 people instrumental in getting a very successful event brought to my community. I encourage you to find out more about your Relay or one near you.

  • Answer:

Yes we do. My mother and her two sister have a team called the Three Sisters. We so far have had a mystery dinner. And next month we are having a golf tourney and possibly this summer a concert to raise money for relay for life. I am an 8 year survivor. My one aunt just lost her husband to brain cancer and my other aunt has a daughter now battling cancer. God bless people like you. As for my favorite part it is meeting people who have gone through the same thing that I have. And if anyone want to participate just visit the American cancer society for details in your area. Just remember all the money raised will one day help eradicate this terrible disease.

This is my first time participating in Relay For Life, May 2006. I am also going to walk with the Susan G. Koman walk also in May 2006 in my neck of the woods. I'm not sure that I would consider myself a survivor yet, maybe just surviving is good enough for now. 8 months post diagnosis & bi-lat mastectomy. 4 weeks post 2nd stage reconstrution surgery. Medical treatment ongoing.

The survivors walk

mtmike

they are having one down here in Charlotte nc next month and i would LOVE to walk in it but cant walk the distance,,,,can not walk due to weakness and i doubt if they would would me use my scooter (medical type) in it. I have cancer and was diagnosed 9-04 and have outlived three oncologists predictions for my lifespan...first one gave me five to ten months (9-04), second one i went to (that one was at Duke Hosp.down here. 3-05) gave me a couple of weeks due to how bad of shape i was in, and the third one gave me less than a month to live,(6-06) but hes now changed his mind due to the avastin working. Every day we live , we are survivors! Everyone in the world is 'terminal', but I tell people I just have a little shorter life thread than some do! I would love to do the survivors walk, as I have survived this long, but like i said, can not do it physically ...if they will let me use my scooter, i sure would do it tho! (Cant use a manual wheelchair due to no arm muscle, went from 150 down to 98 pounds and haven't got the muscle mass back yet. )
