How do you assemble a boat motor?

Two Aluminum boat motor questions ?

• I have two Motor to boat size questions , First is that im looking at buying a 1542 or 1642 jon boat and wanting to power it with a 20 horsepower mercury four stroke . My question is that motor too Small for that size of boat ? My next question is I recently gutted my old 17 ft bass tracker and made it into a big jon boat , i had a fifty horse that went bad that on it that would really make it move , I was wanting to put a thirty horse tiller on it not looking for a speed boat just a bigger boat for rougher days is thirty going to be enough to get it on plane ? i have a jack plate for it also ?

  all boats should have a coast guard plate stating the max power the transom will take.. as far as 50 to 30. matter of trying it.. alot of weight in the boat will obviously effect plain..the 50 probably struggled to plain with weight, so think about less power to the same weight.. jack plate was intended for shallow water apps.. or deeper transoms with shorter lower units.... either case it wont help a underpowered boat plain.. hope this helps.
