Does anyone know how to take off the foot of an outboard motor?

I have an older Tri Hull Fiberglass 14 foot boat. Does anyone know the largest hp motor I could put on it?

  • Answer:

There should be a capacity plate fastened inside the boat, it will give you max weight and horsepower ratings. If the plate is too faded to read contact the boat manufacturer with the hull ID number on the rear or the boat and ask for the info.

Several of the answers are correct, there is a Coast Guard required tag that gives the HP and load information. If it's missing, check with local boat dealers. Even if the builder is not in business, they might be able to help. Or, contact the coast guard.

If the boat is a later model than 1972 it had and should still have a manufacturers tag, either on the dash or on the transom telling you. That was a requirement of the safe boating act of 1972. If not it's most likely around 60HP. My 14' Glastron says 60HP on the tag.

Just to be on the safe side I would say 50 HP That is what I have on my 14 foot boat and it dose a good job. But if in dought call a Dealor they could tell you more.
