How can I find the owner of a boat that landed in my yard in Galveston?

  • I have a house on Galveston Island that I am selling after Ike. Yeah NO DAMAGE!!! One problem is that a boat is partially in the yard. It is a nice boat and I would like to contact the owner of the boat so that they can come and get it. Any idea of how to go about locating the owner?

    There should be registration numbers on the bow of the boat, and a sticker that shows the state of registration. Contact the agency that registers boats in that state (in Maryland it is the Department of Natural Resources) and they will be able to help you locate the owner.

Their should be either registration numbers or a serial number on it somewhere that could be run through the states computers for ownership I wouldn'r suggest like others that you kkep it if you tried to register it you would probably be in big trouble. I'm sure it's listed as missing or destoryed by the police or insurance company.

There should be a vin number or registration number on it, call the DMV and give it to them (Im assuming its like a recreational boat, not a fishing boat) Dont call the coast guard, its not they're job to deal with salvaged boats.

Salvage rights of the sea. Your the proud owner of a boat. All kidding aside, the boat should have a license # on it. Notify the Coast Guard.

Report it to the coast guard or the DMV, it should have some serial number for identification (like vehicles VIN #s). Good luck with that!
