Where can I find the serial number on my 9.9 mercury outboard?

I have a 70hp mercury outboard that I am trying to find out the year model of...The serial number is 8045525.?

  Probably the best way is call your Mercury Dealer and ask. The Numbers themselves not give a clue. IF, you are in America, just call and give them the Serial Number, do not tell them it Australian, that only confuse them. The Dealer will look up the numbers and it will fall in a certain year range. For purposes such as resale and titling, those engines are considered to have originated the Model Year of the boat they are paired with.
