What length of skis do I need?

I need a boat to pull skis and tubes, but it has to be 18 1/2ft. or shorter including the trailer. Any ideas?

  • I'm tight for space and need a boat that can pull skis and tubes but has to be 18 1/2 in total length (to include the trailer) to be stored in my garage. I thought of just getting a jet-ski but I would rather have a small boat. Know of any short boats?

  • Answer:

Maxum is the only manufacturer I could find with a boat under 20 ft. Yamaha makes a great jet boat but its 21' . Jetski may be the only choice for you. www.maxumboats.com

you'll need a "break-away" trailer. the tongue unpins and turns to the side. check it out on line or with dealers. when you're talking about skiing, you need at least 120hp if you're wanting to do adults. 17ft. is about the shortest boat that will carry that, be it inboard or outboard. bass tracker has such a thing and i'm sure other companies do also. do some shopping for price.

15' Boston Whaler w/ a 60 Hp will do the job nicely, a 13' Boston Whaler with a 40 H.P will work too.

I don't know if it's as short as you need, but the sea ray f-16 is a very small jet boat that is very reliable and carries three comfortably, 5 in a pinch. It tops out at 35-40 knots (you only need half of that to ski). The trailer tongue can be modified to hinge left or right. The boat is only 15 feet and doesn't have an outdrive to contend with. There are many available and they can be purchased very reasonably.
