What is the spark plug gap setting on a 1989 7.5hp Mercury outboard motor?
-
I just purchased this motor and would like to make sure gap setting is correct

Answer:
Not sure what year your engine is, but Mercury stopped making a 7.5 hp in 1985. In 1989 they made an 8 hp, which uses NKG plug# BPZ8H-N-10 gapped at .040". If you have a 1979-85 7.5hp, use NGK BR9HS-10 gapped at .040". If you have a 1970-78 7.5hp, use NGK BUHW-2 (surface gap). Whether you use NGK or another brand, the gap will be the same.
