Where to find welding jobs in Alaska?

How to find commercial fishing jobs in Alaska?

  • I was hoping some experienced deckhands might have some insight for getting on a good boat during the summer...therefore purse seiners, tollers, or longliners. I was lead deckhand some 14 years ago on a troll/longliner boat but I have no idea where she or the skipper are now. It used to be you just walked the docks and asked around if anyone needed help...that's how I got on the last gig. But there are fishing jobs "in Alaska" websites that charge a fee and claim to be able to hook you up with good reputable boats...are these a waste of money? I'm just trying to work my way back in and wondering if the process is any different now. Thanks, HalibutHead

  • Answer:

i've never been to alaska but have worked fishing boats for years, i would just go down to the docks and ask every captain on every boat, then go to the pubs down the harbor and ask every captain deck hand for openings, good luck
