Something that could house 2 couples and travel the world without sinking... What other costs are there with owning a boat?

As the saying goes; it costs as much as you have. I have sailed about two thousands miles in my old boat (30ft) that I bought for 6K. And I have sailed less then 200 miles in my new boat that I bought for almost 40k (34ft). Learn to sail, buy the nicest small (30-35ft) boat you can, put away a couple thousand bucks for food and go have fun!

Rule of thumb $10,000 per foot. Probably a 42 footer. Moorage when you are not out sailing. Port fees when you pull into a foreign harbor. Annual Coast Guard (oops I mean Homeland Security) inspection.
