What vessel should i buy for two week boat trip around whitsundays????
-
wanting to plan a two week boat trip around whitsundays. the trip would be a cruising trip and possibly a bit of fishing, wanting to buy a boat sutiable for approx 3 people either sail or motor, and was wondering what would be the most appropriate type of vessel considering things like fuel capacity and fuel consuption. is there anyone who knows a fair bit about boats who can give me some advice on a good boat to purchase??? also what are the safety recquirments for a two week trip? we would most probably be camping ashore and anchoring up to several islands, whats the best type of anchor for this? and where is the best place to stow all safety equipment? can anyone answer any of these questions?

Answer:
What a gorgeous place! You are talking about a great adventure! There are several things to consider. I have no idea how much money you intend to spend. Based on your comments, I think a motor boat or yacht would be the best solution. You want to be able to get to different places on the islands in the limited time you have. I would choose at least a 30 ft. vessel with a fly bridge and a fishing deck on the rear. Safety is a major concern. You need to become an educated boater and/or obtain a captains certification before you take on the ocean in a large boat. You will need a great deal of safety equipment including radar and communications equipment, life saving beacons and a survival raft. In shallow coastal waters, you may need a dinghy or zodiac landing craft to get ashore. Contact local fishing guides for fishing ideas and information on equipment needed. Plan for your families comfort. A catamaran styled vessel will give you the best cruising comfort whether you choose a motorboat or sail boat. There are a lot of books on cooking, safety, repairs and general knowledge at the link listed below. I hope you have a great adventure. I wish I could afford to take one like that myself. The only time you own is the time you spend with your family. No better way to do that then whisk them away on a boating adventure. PS. check out the link for sail boat charters. Let someone else do all the work. Enjoy you adventure.
