What kind of boat should I buy in Hawaii for sport fishing?

  • I'm moving to back to Hawaii soon, and want to puschase a sports fishing boat. What is the best type of boat? Sea Ray Cruiser? Cruisers? Sportcrafts? Can someone please give me some advise, I'm disabled so I need to buy a reasonable priced 30-40 ft sports fishing boat, and I would like to live on the boat, sometimes to get away from society out side stress. NOTE: The boat must be for salt water use only....

    What island will you be on? Slips and mooring space are virtually non-existent in HI. Be sure you have secured a place to keep your boat before you go out and buy something. Most of the marinas in HI are state owned and are beyond dilapidated. There are a few private marinas that I think are almar properties. My experience with almar is not good and I would avoid them if at all possible. They have rules on top of rules to enforce the rules that they use to control you. That said, if you can find the space you need, then find the boat that suits your needs. Remember fuel is really spendy in the 808 state so a small diesel would be wise. Unless you are going far offshore and want to get there in a hurry and your bucket of money is bottomless.

you think it enough that your moving back to hawaii but your gonna have an offshore fishing machine to. what did you do to have to live such a travisty like that? my heart goes with you i just wish my butt were to. you cant go wrong with a hatteras convertible hey did i tell you i have trophies for throwing anchors i was the intercollegite anchor thrower 3 years in a row just in case you need someone to throw any anchors. ya know on your boat in hawaii hint hint

I would not consider any of the boats you listed as Sporties - Hatteras are amazing - but top of the line and VERY expensive. Some other great brands are Ocean, Luhrs, Silverton, Tiara, Buddy Davis, Viking, Cheoy Lee, Bertram, Egg Harbor to name a few. You will be hard pressed to find an inexpensive Sport Fish - the good thing is the they don't change too much year to year (with the exception of the electronics) so you can find a used (1980's) boat that still looks great for under $200K. I would also look at Sedans/Convertibles (the sea ray would be an example of this) they are much cheaper... also maybe check out some Trawlers - they are less money, sea worthy, and have tons of interior space as well as decent fishing space

Well, they ain't cheap, but Grady White has a 33 foot boat now that is the most seaworthy thing out there. Your going to be in the calm Pacific, so a Sea Ray would be perfect and provide more of the luxuries for a live aboard. Livin' the dream , man. Livin' the dream.

I think you need sport fisherman or cruiser. Look at Hatteras they've a lot of sport fisherman. If you want to live a long time on it look into Irwin motorsailors ( This one looks good to me http://www.yachtcouncil.com/yacht-info.asp?vessel=58642)
