Do you need a boating license if you're going to RENT a boat?

Yes you do. You can rent a jet ski without a license, but ski rental places send an instructor out with you. Here in Maryland we can get out boating license online with an online course than a test, takes aboat 3 hours

Guess it depends where you are and how controlling your local government is. I've never heard of a boating license. The boat itself has to be licensed, but not the operator.

yes; i would trust someone renting a boat less than someone owning a boat- you need to know how to navigate the lake if you are going in a boat. the rules and stuff.
