What can I do with a Jet Ski? Jet Ski vs. RIB inflatable?

I have been looking at getting a RIB inflatable and now looking at getting a jet ski.. a 2-3 person model. I'm just looking at getting out in SoCal and cruising around. Possibly even doing a trip to Catalina. I know of some freinds who have gone to Catalina on Jetskis but not RIB inflatables. I was really looking to spend 5k or less. What should I get? What are the advantages and dis-advantages of both?

I would not use a JetSki, and a RIB inflatable, NEVER, for long, open water, trips. Annually I dive "Catalina" on the back side and visit the tourist area as well. The 60 mile trip from LA, the ocean can be extremely dangerous with short notice. Due to the abundance of "seals" traveling between, your MOST dangerous "obstacle", Maco and Tiger sharks. These "predators" can instantly attack. You, at some points, due to the "pounding" will take a rest or slow in open water. A perfect opportunity to be attacked, NOT me. Insure you have "communication" with you. Hope this helps, DO NOT be stupid.

The advantages to jetski's is that you'd have two used jetski's for five grand. Then everyone would be begging you to go to Catalina with them.
