How can i become a fisherman for a living?

To be a fishing guide you must be very competent and experienced, and hold all qualifications and insurances for your work for hire job. Most start fishing as a lowly deckie, and with time and careful study work up the ranks over the years, and sit the various certificates as the sea time builds to gain the legal qualifications to perform the higher paid jobs. Eventually will effort and aptitude you might become the captain, or master. Depending on the fishery this may take a few years, two a decade or two. Age is not the factor - experience and ability is. The less risky the fishing the less chance of making money - even the risky ones can turn over a lot, but expenses might be 80% or more of your gross. As an ex professional fisherman I would suggest looking at a different career in developing areas, alternative energy, low impact house building, re-cycling, aquaculture etc. - fishing today is an extreme risk business from any financial point of view with rapidly increasing overheads, and returns are plummeting along with the catch. Pollution and climate uncertainty just make it harder to get finance. To make a small fortune in fishing today you had best start with a large one..... Aim at careers that serve needed areas, food, shelter and clothing - perhaps Aquaponics?
