How exactly does sailing around the world work?

What are the requirements of boating around the world?

  • Say I had my own boat that was capable of sailing around the world. What would I need to do so? What are the regulations, and permits. Licenses, equipment...all that. And how does making port in other countries work?

  • Answer:

    Dad flew around the world and used a service out of Canada to arrange the visa's and fuel. Worked fairly well. Not cheap. If you want to save some money, go to a big city and visit all the consulates of the countries in your path -then fill out the paper work and go. The alternate is to get visas from the country your in for the next one. We had a problem with warring nations who wanted to know what we were doing in country X when trying to get into country Y. As with autos and planes you will have the boat stamped in your passport- and don't lose the boat or you will be charged duty.

Can't help much either but... If you're on the west coast then come out of your slip and head west. But if you're on a southern or northern coast you first have to decide if you're going west or east and turn in the right direction From the east coast you'd of course head east...
