Is Capri as cool & gorgeous as it looks?

1988 Bayliner capri 1750 power trim troubleshooting?

  • I have a 1988 bayliner capri 1750 with an omc cobra outdrive. I recently changed the fluid in the outdrive without any problem, and at this time the power trim worked just fine. the next time i went to work on the boat ( a couple of days later), the outdrive would not move up or down (its currently all the way up). The trim motor is getting power, as it whines as always. I treid pulling the outdrive down while holding the trim button down, but nothing happened. It sounds like it might need fluid in the trim motor, but I have no idea where to add fluid! Looks like its going to be another exciting season! Thanks for any advice.

  • Answer:

there should be a fluid reservoir on the engine compartment mounted trim pump what it sounds like is that your out of fluid and your trim rams are filled with air if it is you it will be spongey like if your brake lines have air in it on a car you usually need to put the rams down to fill the reservoir there should be a bleed screw on the pump if you open that up it should make your unit go down and when it does you can fill it and then you have to bleed the air out of the system to prevent it from locking up on you again it may take awhile to bleed the system but once you dont see any bubbles you shouldnt have any problem
