How to find heat reflective curtains?

Curtains on a boat?

  • We have an IPY 485 sailing yacht and we have these curtains on the boat: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v670/DixieTigerGirl/IMG_2963.jpgand the problem that we have is how to get them to stay on the windows that look like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v670/DixieTigerGirl/IMG_2964.jpg . We have tried using velcro, but the adhesive does not hold up in the heat of summer in Charleston, SC. It separates from the actual velcro and the curtains fall. We think our next form of getting them to stay up is snaps, but we just wanted to know if anyone out there with yachts, boats, etc. have found a less permanent solution to the curtain issue. We don't really want to drill holes if we don't have to, but we will eventually have to if we can't find another kind of velcro adhesive. Does anyone know of a kind of connector like velcro that has a strong adhesive that will stand up to the heat of a Carolina summer?

    I don't know if this would work with your windows, but I made curtains for our boat and used elastic cord in the hem all around the edges of the curtains to hold them on. Our frames were different from yours, though. It might be worth a try.

OMG!!!! You drop the coin for a gorgeous Center Cockpit Island Packet 485 and you want to cheap out on curtains??? Get to a Chandler...pour through the catalogs and get proper roll up shades. In fact Island Packet has them available as an option. Shame on you.

I'm a power boater, but I know sailors love to party so I'll offer a suggestion. The problem with the velcro is that when you pull the curtains back, the velcro pulls the matching velcro off. I think you are also trying to find something that doesn't look gaudy and velcro looks bad when naked like that. I think your easiest solution is going to be to staple the velcro into the wood frame...another solution will be to get some small metal rings put into the curtain, and small matching hooks and screw those in which you say you don't want to do, but you won't get a great seal. I'm afraid the best solution is going to be the snaps. That's what I would do.

instead of a lot of holes, could you use light screen door type springs attached at each end top and bottom.length ways , and make the curtains so they could slide on the spring to open and close, this way only 4 holes would need to be drilled. you will have functioning curtain, you can cover the screws with Caps to match the curtain.

there are curtain rods mad just for this they go on top and bottem small 1/4 screws no big deal good luck

Ours are on rails that are screwed in. If velcro doesn't work, I'm afraid you'll have to use snaps.
