How will a Mustang pull a jet ski?
-
I have a 2000 V6 mustang and a 2006 Yamaha VX110 jet ski. I may be getting full use and storage of it from my dad. I was wondering how well my car would pull the jet ski? "Well" as far as going down the road, up a hill, pulling the jet ski out of the water with a little water-weight added to it from a day's ride, pulling the jet ski out of the water if the boat ramp is a little steep, etc. etc. Also is there anything I should know or be leary of when pulling a jet ski with a car??

It should do ok. Make sure you have good tires or you may not be able to pull it out of the water.

just for reassurance. i pulled my 18foot rib, about 2500lbs, from charleston sc, to johnson city, tn, over the mountains, behind a subaru WRX. the turbo helps with the hills, but a jetski, hell wont even know its on the back on ya mustang. more reassurance. i orginally from england, i pulled a 25foot RV behind my vauxhall calibra 2.0. i pulled my 4meter RIB about 1500lbs behind a 1.4 vauxhall nova hatchback. cars will pull fine, as long as the rear suspension is strong enough for the nose weight, and the overall rate doesnt exceed the hitch capacity. for a mustang, you will only get a class1 hitch, you be fine with that.

I don't think the car will run good on the water. Why not just ride the jet ski?

Well first, are you ready and willing to put a towbar package on your car, and have you asked your local Ford dealership if the frame is strong enough to pull the load? That would be my step in this journey. If the answers are yes, it can tow it, then there is the loading dock or ramp. If it is too steep, this is why you see trucks with 4 wheel drive loading and unloading boats. Keyword is 4 Lo. Otherwise, I would limit your unloading from ramps no more than 6 to 8 inches down from the road/parking lot. Also, if you are pulling a jetski on a trailer, remember to drive sensibly. Otherwise, slow down early for stops, don't over accelerate, and make slightly wider turns at SLOWER speeds. If you turn sharp and fast, you can either roll the trailer and your Mustang gets to be pulled around like a rag doll, or you'll just skid like a bola on the ground.
