Underwater case for my video camera?

Want to video w my camcorder on a boat... how do i watr proof my camera w/o buying expensive watr proof case?

  • Does anyone know how to create a waterproof... case, i guess, for a camcorder? I don't want to film underwater. I want to take it out with me on a motorboat and sailboat, but just in case it gets splashed or dropped in the water, is there anyway i can *make* a waterproof case? The ones that are available are $119 at the cheapest!! Thanks

  • Answer:

YOU CAN BUILD ONE FOR 10$ OR LESS!!! DO NOT PUT IT IN A ZIP LOCK BAG OR WRAP IT WITH BUBBLE WRAP, MY FRIEND A FEW MONTHS AGO LOST A 700$ CAMCORDER DOING THAT! Go to this site and they show you a REALLY simple way of building one for 10$ or less, depending on if you already have certain things. Im so glad I can help you out on this, just watch this video! I actually made one of these and trust me it works PERFECTLY, also you can go completely underwater and have some more fun!

If you are going to be around salt water, I suggest that you go buy an inexpensive camcorder, and leave your good one at home. Just the salt air will not be good for it, and if it is dropped in the water, fresh or salt, it will be ruined. Get a lanyard for your neck to the camcorder so you will not drop it. You should be able to keep it dry with some care. Regards, Dan

I would suggest the Aquapac. I have used it and seems to work well. The ziploc type case is crystal clear and as long as you dont scratch it, your pictures will come out reasonably well. Here is a website so you can see what I am talking about, but do your research and you will probably find them a lot cheaper on other sites. Check ebay as well. Although I have never had it leak besides the time I forgot to seal it competely, I have also never submerged my equipment for a long period. You should be fine with a quick dunking though. Just make sure that it is completely sealed. http://www.altrec.com/aquapac/

you can't just water proof a camera without buying a case or buying one that is made to go in the water

Unfortunately, not much can help you here. The cases cost si much because they are truly waterproof. The best I can tell you is to get some thick ziplocs for when you're not using it, or cut a hole for the lens, and duct tape it shut.

There are some good ideas presented to you here, just remember that camcorder cost a few bucks so keep it safe. In the past we have used a glass pickling, jam or preserving jar whatever you want to call them. It works well providing the glass bottom is clear and not distorted, it will even work under water too. It will also float to the surface if lost and you can tell quickly if it's been leaking (hopefully not). We use one with a glass snap-on lid they have good gaskets and less hassle than the screw-on type, tried and tested still in use today.
