What do I have to do to become an entry level or AB Merchant Marine?

  • I know that in order to obtain my MMD I have to get TWIC certified, what I want to know is after I get my TWIC can I just get a drug test and physical at the center that I would get the MMD or can/do I have to get these things done at my local doctors office? Also are there any other certifications that I have to get to become a entry level seaman and or AB?

    AB is not an entry level position. You would start out as an Ordinary Seaman. Look at www.uscg.mil under MMD for all the forms and requirements. You need to pass a DOT drug test, and have a physical at your doctor. He needs to fill out the medical form. Then you submit all your paperwork to the nearest Regional Exam Center (REC) for processing.
