How to repair a leaking boat?

Boat repair, the boat may be warped?

  • So my dad has had his boat onland for about 10 or more years, and finally after graduating and making some money, i've decided on looking into repairing it. at first i wanted a new boat, but it was too expensive and my fathers was already bought and paid for, all it needed was to be rebuilt from the inside out. $30,000 was the most i would look into putting into the repairs. so i contacted a family friend who is really into repairing old boats and asked him to look into it. although i was out when he did so. he left me a message saying the boat was warped and it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one. thing is i have alot of memories with this boat, and i was starting to look forward to getting it fixed. i don't know the make of it, but i know its a 24' speedboat of some sort. can anyone tell me what could have been warped, and around how much it would cost to fix whatever is warped? thanks.

The market on used boats is "soft" and so there's lots of boats available at give away prices. If your friend is "into" repairing old boats, he has some experience in "warped hulls" Boats that are "blocked" can get twisted and warped if they are not correctly supported. If it's been sitting for 10 years, there's going to be other things that will be an issue. If you ask your friend for his advise, I'd heed is advise and opinion. You might be able to use or sell some of the equipment ot parts on the old boat, before consigning it to the "bone" yard. I've seen people spend thousands only to fine an even more expensive problem to repair. A warped hull is one of the most expensive things to deal with, and sometimes can't be fixed. Bottom line is there is going to be something available for a lot less money, and ready to go. Good Luck!

Without seeing a picture of the vessel it's kind of hard to tell. My guess though would be that if she was out of the water for that long chances are the keel is what is being said to be warped & fixing this would be equal to buying a new vessel. Memories on the boat are great but please do not make the last one be taking the boat out and having her sink on you. If you like boating that much...save to buy a vessel that is sea worthy!
