Where do I find the serial number on an Evinrude Fisherman 6hp outboard motor?

  • I recently purchased a 6hp Evinrude Fisherman outboard motor and am trying to determine what year it is. I have found references matching model numbers to years but am unable to locate the model number on my motor.

    The official location is on the side of the transom bracket, where you clamp the motor to the boat. There should be a rectangular tag riveted to the back/side of the bracket. if it's been removed you might still see the holes. There is a secondary place roughly on the top of the block, near the head. This appeared to be a freeze plug, with stamped numbers, indicating the model number. I've seen a fair number where both have been removed for obvious reasons. It's possible that a service facility might be able to identify it through other means.

If the plate is missing on the mount bracket check on the engine block for a round plug there should be a model and serial # if missing it could be a stolen engine.

take off the engine cover, it should be somewhere on the engine. or call Evinrude and ask.
