How to keep socket alive?

How to keep oar locks in socket?

  • my oar locks fit into the sockets fine, but how do you keep them from slipping out. The shaft part of the oar lock has a small hole, do you put some kind of pin in there or something to keep them from slipping out of the sockets? Thanks!

  • Answer:

The usual thing is to tie a lanyard to it, threaded down through the hole in the socket and secured somewhere nearby. That way you can flip the oarlocks inboard where they'll hang down when you don't want them.

yes, you are correct , that is what the little hole is for. just get a washer that fits the shaft, put on the washer then put a snap pin or any pin, large wire whatever through the hole to keep the washer in place.

A pin or small bolt goes through that and the oar. Mark the oar where the pin should go, drill it and install the oar lock on the oar. Your good to go and row your boat.
