Am I allowed to supplement my NYS U.I. benefit?

Am I allowed to launch an inflatable raft is NYS Park waters?

  • I know that in NYC only canoes and kayaks are allowed but I was wondering if I can use my Sevylor Fish Hunter raft in NYS Park waters such as Jones Beach State Park, Captree State Park and Bear Mountain State Park. The NYS DEC doesn't outright say they aren't allowed but doesn't seem to mention anything about inflatable rafts either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. .

Hello, NYS Parks and Recreation does address dinghies, kayaks, and canoes. You're boat will be classified as a non-mechanically propelled vessel according to the regulation. I cut and pasted a portion of the regulation here; "The following vessels are exempt from state registration requirements: vessels operating commercially with either a U.S. or foreign document; vessels legally registered in another state (up to 90 consecutive days maximum); lifeboats (not including tenders and dinghies); competition race boats; and non mechanically propelled vessels." You can get the whole booklet here; http://nysparks.state.ny.us/recreation/boating/documents/NYSBoatersGuide.pdf
