How do you avail of the student concession in indian railways?

i know there's a 50% student concession available---i was wondering if it's there only if you have to travel for an exam or to a hometown or something----some friends were planning a trip to rajasthan----we were wondering if the concession applies to us(we're students in a recognized institute) and if so how do we go about getting it

Yes. The concession does apply no matter where you travel in India. You have to show your university id card at the ticket counter while purchasing ticket.
