What do I pack when going to India?

  • I'm going to India for the first time without my parents. I have no idea what to pack! i'll be staying there for 7 weeks. what should i pack? and what shouldn't i pack? and any tips when traveling?

    i have never had shots before going to india. there is malaria in some places so find out from your doctor about malaria tablets. do some research also as some of them have side effects. take a digital camera...a must, as india is a photographers dream! don't take too many things as india has nearly everything you will need and you will be able to buy lovely bedspereads, clothes, jewellery and more when you get there, cheaply. a good thing to carry with you, which you can also buy in india, is an electric mosquito zapper that you plug in at the wall. put it on before sunset and they are very effective in keeping your room mozzy free. tampons perhaps. not sure if they are available everywhere you will be travelling. i found a suitcase, mid size, with wheels and a small backpack was very convenient. if i was looking around for suitable place to stay and i didn't like a place i could easily toddle off with my suitcase in tow and in and out of airports etc the wheels were a bonus. no aching back. in most of india it is hot so travelling light and easy is the way to go.

Make sure you get your shots and just pack light. Don't bring too many valuables or you might get robbed by indian bandits.

Depends when & which places in India you've planned to travel. You would rather include these info in your question for a good answer. If you're on a tour to north India during Dec & Jan, make sure to carry sufficient winter clothes. Do remember to carry some rain wear or atleast an umbrella - monsoon in some parts. Do carry some medicines, just in case ... Dont carry too much. Travel lite and have fun.
