Why is public transportation in India so inefficient?

Why is public transportation in India very inefeccient?

  • I mean seriuosly, its like your lucky if you survive riding the "metro" trains in Mumbai, it's scary as H-E-L-L, I went there 2 years ago when some of my cousins and I had some money to travel, India was what was most affordable, we thought that ridding the metro in Mumbai would be like here in Monterrey, Mexico (where we are from) but it was totally different, i can not believe a survived, after rdding it I pinched my self to find out if a was still a living person or a dead soul. Befora that I always used to think my country was so third wolrd and crowded, disorganized, polluted, with horrible public transportation (metro, buses, etc...), but after going to India, I see my Mexico as a developed country compared to India, if you dont believe i will put a youtube video of the Mumbai metro, and Monterrey Mexico metro so you can compare Mumbai, India http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3pt2vom4vg Monterrey, Mexico http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxG4xBbXl18

  • Answer:

Hi Dear great video capture in Mumbai. When we are paying Rs. 10/- (equivalent to 0.2 euro) for traveling 50 Kilometer (50 miles) what great we can expect ! You check Metro in Kolkata and New Delhi it would look like Metro of Mexico. Mexico Area is 1,972,550 km² and population is 108700891 Average Density = 55 person per km² India Area is 3,287,590 km² and population is 1114017280 Average Density = 338 person per km² So think of the load on transportation. Also the poverty is much higher in India. We need to have transportation for all. If I happen to go to Mexico, I promise to get you similar breaking news type video of your country, seeing which you would be shocked. visit the following sites to understand the situation of Mexico - http://web.worldbank.org/WBSITE/EXTERNAL/COUNTRIES/LACEXT/MEXICOEXTN/0,,contentMDK:20233967~pagePK:141137~piPK:141127~theSitePK:338397,00.html http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper410/stills/56208312.jpg http://defiant.corban.edu/gtipton/net-fun/mex-girl.html http://usliberals.about.com/od/immigration/a/IllegalImmi.htm

Dude India has the 2nd highest population in the world (only a couple million short from China) and it's land is not very big like Mexico, China, or the U.S. So it would be crowed and some poverty. India not bad place either it's aweomse if you go other places. Mumbai is one of the crowded cities like Delhi. The transportation system is not inefeccient. It's pretty good I went to india in 2006 and went the metro in Delhi and it was pretty efeccient and fast.

You are comparing a small and underdeveloped country like Mexico with an economic giant called India. If you think Mexico is 1st world, where are its IT engineers? Nor does Mexico have a credible military or nuclear weapons. Nor has ever Mexico sent its own rockets and satellites in space. Above all, Mexico cannot and will never be able to match India's growing economical might. India is billed as the world's next superpower along side China and Mexico will need at least a century more to get there Yes, public transportation in India is crowded but when people there dont complain...why should you? Its just an Indian way of life. And from your description, you appear to have traveled India as backpackers or low budget tourists. Try doing it in style and you'll discover that India has lot more to offer than mere crowded trains.

Yes, It's efficient Because, The Scale of infrastructure, in respect to the Scale of Population and Requirement of Transportation systems is quite adversely contrary, And if you can Realise, The world Second largest Democracy of the World, It's Difficult to come to a good track so, it will take little time and effort, in order to improve communication as well as transportation, As You may be knowing, Communication and Transportation is Contrast to each other, If we will Improve communication, Frequent Transportation for silly purpose will decrease, And further Improve ment can be, Multi level Road Transport, Further Progress in Air-flights and of coarse with Population control, We can achieve the best of our transportation vivacious needs.

Mumbai is a very crowded city .It has too large a population for its size. Hence managing the Trains for such Huge population is very tough. This is not to take away from the fact that unfortunately Public Transport in most Indian cities is managed by Government Bodies where Corruption and Ineffeciency is still prevalent. While state governments have started to reform these ;it would still take Time and Additional Investments to improve the state of Public Transport. Do come and see Delhi Metro-It is very well maintained ,Punctual and Efficient . Hopefully ,situation in Mumbai too shall improve.

indians r least bothered about all that, they do not have time to look after theirown job.all r selfish, the trpt dept should take steps to limit the passengers according to the metro's capacity, should increase the frequency of trpt at peak times.

Because it is made to be affordable to everyone in India. I remember a TV show where they said you can get from 1 part of India to any other for less than $6. you get what you pay for.

Gone through your question and two sites. The problem is of discipline and moral.Over population is another problem.

The answer lies in your comments. YOu could afford to visit India only...right? And you got what you paid for. There is no free lunch my dear, you pay reasonaly good price for your travel, you travel comfortably. Also, please remember, 20 Mexicos are inside the what India is. Indian rail covers the longest rail track and carries poor people in an unthinkable cost, some said rightly....USD 12.00 for travelling 1958 kilometers (the distance between Kolkata to Bombay). That amount I used to pay in all developed country for travelling from the Airport to the City.
