What is the best road route from Coimbatore to Kodaikanal?

  • The last time I went to from Mumbai to Kodaikanal via Madurai which was a very long journey getting from Mumbai to Madurai as there is no direct flight. Someone told me that its better to take the road route from Coimbatore to Madurai. Anyone having practical experience of this route? Thanks.

    Answer 1: There are direct flights from Mumbai to Madurai now. Answer 2: If you want to take the best roads, then the route is: Coimbatore - Pollachi - Udumalpet - Palani. From Palani one route is upward journey in Kodai hills. Roads are narrow. Route buses are not so common. The other route is from Palani to Otahchatiram - Dindugal - Kodai Road - Vathalagundu then after upward hill journey. Total distance via Palani is 170 kms. Via Kodai Road will be additional 40 kms but the time taken are the same.

Distance from coimbatore 175 Kms. First you reach Palani and take a deviation to Kodaikanal. The car drivers (taxi) prefer to go via Palani route. The Palani-Kodai route is a bit narrow and shorter.The bus usually takes more wider road route (via Vattalagundu town) to Kodai.But will add another 50 to 60 kms

good question.the route from coimbatore to palani is a national hiighway and its very good from palani it will take only 2 hours to reach kodaikanal.from ciombatore you should go via pollachi,udumalpet,palani its approx 110kms.palani toi kodaikanal 57 kms.but you can go andman and nicobar islands.its having lot of good places to see.visit andamantours.in to know about beach tours and important tourist spots in andamans.
