Travelling India for 6 Months?
-
Hi I am a student and I'm having a gap year at the moment. I'm 20 year old will be 21 by the time I go and it is something I have wanted to do ever since the first time I went when I was 16/17. I have been too India twice but only for 3 or 4 week holidays and I was wondering How much money I would need to stay there for 6 months. When I go it will be a 6 weeks before the end of the season. I no that during the off season then accommodation will drop considerately. I am not sure where I will be flying to yet but but Mumbai seems to be the cheapest place to fly too at the moment. I will be staying in Goa for the first two weeks and staying in Vagator as I have stayed there twice now and got to know a few people around that area (beach shack owners, shop owners ect) I would then like to travel south to Karnataka, Kerala such as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Chennai, Hyderabad, then travel north to Andhra Pradesh, Bhubaneswar, Then toward Uttar Praadesh, Mumbai then back down to Goa. Las time in Goa I found the best way to get around was to use a moped as I was only paying £1.50 a day for it and it was good for travelling to places such as Maharastra (Paradise beach) I really would not mind finding the cheapest rooms available as I will only be using it for 7 hours a night just to sleep in. I would love to travel the whole country via motor bike as I could just stop off where ever I like but this would take much longer than 6 Months. So maybe travel down to Kerala, Chennai, Karnataka then back to Goa via bike before moving north or would this be expensive? I'm looking to spend a week or so in each place. I'm not to fussed about going on tours as I would like to just go out and find things my self and meet new people on the lowest budget possible. I was thinking some hwere in the region on £2500 including Flights, Visa ect.... If anyone has any help on the best way to travel (sleeper bus maybe) then that would be great, I have also looked into selling items on Ebay which I did last year and If the right things are sold then I think I could easily travel the country for as little as £800 If there is any help anybody can give then that would be great. Thanks ever so much in advance :D Kane

Answer:
India has become quite expensive with it's growth. Food can be very cheap in India if you would like to put your health at stake which I would not suggest. Eat in clean places only, you will have to depend upon bottled water as the tap water can be a serious health risk for any traveler. You can stay in YMCA's which will save you lot of money. Motorbiking will be a good way to save money but you must realize that Indian roads are not perfect for motorbikes and laws are not followed on Indian roads, you are at the mercy of God when it comes to safety. I would suggest that you have a budget of at least RS1000-1500/- per day (£10-15) and make sure do not carry much cash with you, credit cards are accepted all over the country and you will find an ATM at every corner if you need cash.
