Where is Bay of Bengal?

Are there sharks in the Bay of Bengal..along Bangladesh shoreline...?

  • I was told that they aren't sharks in the Bay of Bengal....especially along the Bangladesh shoreline....would it be because of the Ganges River & other rivers flowing fresh water into the Bengal Bay because I know that Bull Sharks can live in salt water and fresh water...they adapt to both over here in USA so why not there...Bull Sharks are always found 10 miles and up to 1500 miles upstream in Mississippi River and other major rivers..They go up the rivers to bred and bear their young...I am not doubting what my friend said...I respect him more than anyone...he's my fiance too...I only want to understand why....thank you

  • Answer:

Many sites on the internet say there are not but my mother and other Bengalis say the Bay is full of sharks. One man told me there is a species of dolphin that has razor sharp jaws and like to use them. Why? are you planning to go to Cox's Bajaar? There are maybe other stuff more dangerous than sharks to watch out for such as quicksand and pirates. The waves along the beach are too violent. But the place is one of the most beautiful spots on Earth and the locals are friendly.

Yes sharks are found in banglesh / bay, in fact in jan to may 2006 alone, upto 8 sharks were identified there. But i am not sure if they were bull sharks though.
