How wet is the monsoon in July/August in South India?

India in July - Monsoon?

  • Would you advise travel to India north during July? I am planning on Amritsar, Chandigarh, Delhi and maybe bits of Dharmasala, Udaipur and Jaipur. I am getting conflcting reports on how the monsoon is going. One has said that monsoon is over in the north and has moved south, but others are saying there are floods still in the north. What is really happening and is there likely to be flooding in July?

  • Answer:

It has always been a good idea to stay in one place during the rainy season. We are getting intermitent rains and then hot sweaty days here near Delhi. Our major annual flooding hasn't come yet. Only small floods that go down after a few hours. I can't say for sure about the places you plan to visit. India can be lovely in any season if you're prepared for it. But if floods will disrupt your plans I wouldn't try till August or september. If you're super flexible about your plans then no problem.

Well if you cut Dharamshala, then Amritsar,Chandigarh,Delhi,Udaipur & Jaipur are safe in Monsoon , Dharamshala & mcleodganj are hilly area so land slide is possible, Monsoon travelling in India is pocket friendly Avoid North east India ,Goa & Kerala in monsoon

yes there are floods in some part of the country but not in the places you have mentioned . itz a very good season to travel so dont miss it enjoy the climate. If you are planning to go to dharmasala then consider DALHOUISE it is a very beautiful place to stay for a couple of days its more worth a visit than dharmasala

Monsoon, the ideal time for rejuvenation............. Traditional texts reveal that the monsoon is the best season for rejuvenation programmes. The atmosphere remains dust-free and cool, opening the pores of the body to the maximum, making it most receptive to herbal oils and therapy. Monsoon has already set in, in the North & the places U have mentioned all will have monsoon around the same time though they vary. Non of these places are flooded, but Dharmasala is hilly region it would not be good, as the roads block due to land slides & water logging.

Yes it is moonsoon, but if you choose a place that is hilly then u wont have th eproblem of flooding. the rain of course is magical, if you like it. I would suggest Mangalore, the Rome of the east as it is on 7 hills and rarely know to flood There is a wonderfull beach resort ( Summer Sands )in Ullal that i can recommemd as ive just ben there and had a lovely stay. If you dont like the rains then better avoid the moonsoon Till sept end totally .
