Why are we as Indians stuck up with Taj Mahal to promote tourism?

• Is India just Taj mahal?Have you wondered that why in global tourism scene India is just known by Taj and elephants.Is it all that we have?I can mention 100's of places which are more awesome then Taj.Still we don't accept the potential because nobody is interested. We have made Taj mahal one of the seven wonders by showing our pseudo patriotism and voting like crazy.But has anybody even bothered to go through other contenders and can Taj match those?Would it not have been better that Taj was not in seven wonders so that other places had any chance of getting our attention?

  There was no other contender from India. Whether it was pseudo patriotism or not, I like the fervor with which Indians got together for this cause. India has numerous heritage monuments I agree that can be promoted for tourism. Tourism indeed has a big potential, it can do wonders to our economy. It is an industry by itself but it hasn't been tapped to the fullest. India has so much to offer to the world tourists, but we lack in planning. Where is the infrastructure to support the influx of tourists ? We can't even offer clean toilets to people in public places. There is a long way to go, before what you suggest can become a reality.
